Dual Group winner Good Standing added to his black-type winning record when proving a cut-above his opposition in the Listed BTC Suez Queensland Day Stakes at Doomben.
One of the first to jump in the 1350m set weights event for 3-year-olds, the gifted son of Artie Schiller (USA) was eased off the pace soon after settling, but was perfectly positioned to strike at the top of the straight.
Asked for a winning effort as soon as heads turned for home, Good Standing ranged alongside the leader I’m A Rippa halfway down the straight before surging clear over the final 100m.
Sent to post a well-backed $4.80 favourite, Good Standing scored by 2.8 lengths with his opposition being completely outclassed.
A Group 2 winning juvenile and Group 3 winning spring 3-year-old, Good Standing has now won three of his 12 career starts — all three of his victories coming in black-type company. His latest success took his earnings to a figure in excess of $680,000.
Illustrating the versatility of the Artie Schiller breed is the fact that Good Standing is one of three 3-year-old stakes winners this season for the Aquis@Emirates Park stallion to have saluted at distances ranging from 1200m to 2800m.
In addition to Good Standing (a stakes winner over 1350m and 2000m), there has also been the 1200m Group 1 VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes triumph of Flying Artie and the 2800m Listed VRC St Leger Stakes victory of Dornier.
