Pedigree Analysis

Undefeated at two, Mutawaajid won five consecutive races, including the Royal Sovereign Stakes (G2) and Hobartville Stakes (G2). By Champion Sire, and noted sire of sires, Redoute’s Choice, he is out of a multiple graded stakes producing half-sister to Shaftesbury Avenue.

Redoute’s Choice and sons have thrived when crossed over mares from the Sir Tristram line, and in addition to a grade one winner out of a mare by Sir Tristram himself, there are also winners at this level from daughters of Zabeel (who can be found through Octagonal, Lonhro, Savabeel and Don Eduardo), Marauding, Military Plume and Sovereign Red, as well as graded stakes winners from daughters of Dr. Grace and Hula Town.

Redoute’s Choice is an example of the very successful cross of Danehill line stallions with mares from that other great domestic sire line, Star Kingdom, but he and his sons have enjoyed success with certain branches of Star Kingdom, notably Marscay (available through Blazing Sword, Jetball, Maizcay and Weasel Clause), Luskin Star/Kaoru Star (which includes Covetous and St. Covet), and the branch that is found in Redoute’s Choice himself, that of Bletchingly, including Redoute’s Choice’s own broodmare sire, Canny Lad,  Kenny's Best Pal and True Version, with other sources including Star Watch (sire of Hurricane Sky, who own family), Best Western, Cossack Warrior (sire of Brave Warrior, and grandsire of Show a Heart) and Lord Ballina (sire of Bureaucracy).

Although Redoute’s Choice is from the Danzig branch of Northern Dancer, he and his sons have met with considerable success when crossed back over certain branches of this line. From the Nijinsky II branch there are grade one winners from daughters of Sword Dance, Caerleon (sire of Generous, Alquoz, Tenby and Bletchley Park) and Whiskey Road (sire of Strawberry Road) and stakes winner Royal Academy (sire of Bel Esprit), as with other Nijinsky II sources including Kala Dancer, Western Symphony and Yeats. We can note that Nijinsky II is a genetic relative to Storm Bird, and out of mares from the Storm Bird line, Redoute’s Choice has a stakes winner out of a mare by Storm Cat, and a grade one winner out of a mare by that horses’ son Catrail, which also suggests trying mares by Tale of the Cat Hennessy – broodmare sire of a Redoute’s Choice line graded stakes winner – Johannesburg, Giant’s Causeway, High Yield and Van Nistelrooy). From other branches of Storm Bird, there is also a Redoute’s Choice line grade one winner out of a mare by Mukaddamah, and a stakes winner from a daughter of  Bluebird (sire of Lake Coniston, Dolphin Street and Blues Traveller). Success with Nijinsky II and Storm Bird would also encourage trying mares carrying their relative The Minstrel (in Masterclass – who is from the same family as Redoute’s Choice – Bakharoff and Palace Music, the sire of Naturalism). There are also a trio of Redoute’s Choice line stakes winners out of daughters of Dehere (by Deputy Minister, a horse whose sire, Vice Regent, has a similar background to The Minstrel).

From the Sadler’s Wells branch of Northern Dancer, there Redoute’s Choice line stakes winners out of mares by Blevic (by Scenic), Barathea, Galileo and Runyon, with other sources includining Montjeu, Carnegie, King of Kings and Singspiel. There is also a Redoute’s Choice grade one winner out of daughter of Encosta De Lago (by Sadler’s Wells’ brother, Fairy King, also sire of Helissio, Falbrav, Revoque and Shinko King). Try My Best is from the same family as Redoute’s Choice, and the cross of  Redoute’s Choice and sons over mare by Try My Best’s son, Last Tycoon, is a very successful one, and might be emulated through O’Reilly, Marju, Bigstone, Towkay, Iglesia and Written Tycoon.

The cross of Redoute’s Choice and his sons with Mr. Prospector line mares has produced more than 20 stakes winners, including from daughters of Gulch and his son, Thunder Gulch; Jade Robbery; Jade Hunter; Geiger Counter; Hussonet; King’s Best and his son, Kingmambo (also sire of Dubai Destination); Secret Savings (sire of Dash For Cash); Woodman (and his son Timber Country); Distorted Humor and End Sweep (both by Forty Niner); West By West (by Gone West, who can be brought in through Mr. Greeley, Zamindar, Zafonic, Iffraaj, and from the family of Redoute’s Choice, Xaar); Umatilla (from the family of Redoute’s Choice) and Waikiki Star (by Fappiano, who could be brought in through Unbridled’s Song).

Redoute’s Choice and sons have shown an affinity for various branches of Hail to Reason. From the Roberto branch there are stakes winners out of mares by Red Ransom and At Talaq, with Brocco, Prized and Touching Wood being alternatives. The Halo branch has enjoyed success through Sunday Silence (sire of Bubble Gum Fellow, Fuji Kiseki and Tayasu Tsuyoshi), More Than Ready and Don’t Say Halo, and there is also a grade one winner from a daughter of Sound Reason.

From the Blushing Groom line there are Redoute’s Choice stakes winners out of mares by Rainbow Quest and Quest For Fame, and from a daughter of Fantastic Light (by Rahy, also sire of Noverre). There are three stakes winners, one grade one, out of mares by Rory’s Jester, and two grade one winners out of mares by Snippets (sire of Pins, Spartacus and Snowland).

Eavesdropper (USA)

B 2000 15.2 HH - Kingmambo x Weekend Surprise

Service Fee: $6,600 inc. GST

Pedigree Analysis

Eavesdropper is a stakes winning sprinter by Kingmambo, and is half-brother to Champion, classic winner and Champion Sire A.P. Indy, and to Champion classic winner and classic sire, Summer Squall.

Kingmambo and his sons have enjoyed phenomenal success with Sadler’s Wells line mares, making Eavesdropper a natural choice for daughters of such as Scenic (sire of Blevic), Barathea, Galileo, Montjeu, Carnegie, King of Kings and Singspiel. Trying mares descending from Sadler’s Wells’ brother, Fairy King could also be well worth trying, candidates including Encosta de Lago, Helissio, Falbrav, Revoque and Shinko King.

The cross of Kingmambo and his sons over mares descending from Northern Dancer through Danzig has resulted in 30 stakes winners. Kingmambo’s dam, the great mare, Miesque, is bred on a similar cross to Danehill, a strain that has produced a grade one winner when crossed under Kingmambo, thus opening up the possibility that Eavesdropper might work well over mares by such as Redoute’s Choice and sons, Flying Spur, Fastnet Rock, Danehill Dancer, Choisir, Catbird, Commands, Danasinga, Danzero, Exceed and Excel, Desert King and Rock of Gibraltar. Danzig though Anabaa would give linebreeding to the family of Eavesdropper. The Kingmambo  cross with mares descending from Green Desert (sire of Cape Cross,  Invincible Spirit, Volksraad, Desert Sun, Desert Style, Shinko Forest and Magic Ring) has been a successful one, as has the cross over the Chief’s Crown (sire of Grand Lodge) branch. Other sources of Danzig to consider include Belong to Me, Langfuhr, Honor Grades (giving inbreeding to the dam of Eavesdropper), and Perugino (a three-quarters relative to Sadler’s Wells and Nureyev).

The cross of Kingmambo and sons with mares from the Nijinsky II branch of Northern Dancer, including a classic winner out of a mare by Royal Academy, and four stakes winners out of mares by Caerleon (who could be brought in through Alquoz, Tenby, Generous and Bletchley Park),Whiskey Road (sire of Strawberry Road), Kala Dancer, Western Symphony, Tights and Yeats (a close relative to Sadler’s Wells and Nureyev). Nijinsky II’s three-quarters-brother The Minstrel has also enjoyed success under Kingmambo, including a grade one winner out of a mare by Masterclass, with Bakharoff and Palace Music (the sire of Naturalism) being other options. Eavesdropper is half-brother to a classic winner by Storm Bird, and Kingmambo and sons have done well with this strain via Storm Cat, who is available through Tale of the Cat, Hennessy, Johannesburg, Giant’s Causeway, Catrail, High Yield and Van Nistelrooy. Storm Bird might also work through Bluebird (sire of Lake Coniston, Dolphin Street and Blues Traveller). The cross of Kingmambo over mares from the Deputy Minister branch over Northern Dancer is a grade one producing one, and might be tested through Dehere.  There is a classic winner by Kingmambo out of a mare by Last Tycoon, suggesting that this strain might be tried through daughters of O’Reilly, Marju, Bigstone, Towkay, Iglesia, Written Tycoon and Magic of Money (broodmare sire of a graded winner by a son of Kingmambo).

Kingmambo and his sons have done well over the Halo branch of Hail to Reason, including enjoying notable success with Southern Halo, sire of More Than Ready, and Sunday Silence (sire of Bubble Gum Fellow, Fuji Kiseki and Tayasu Tsuyoshi), while Don’t Say Halo could also be considered. Kingmambo has enjoyed considerable success over Seattle Slew, who is also sire of Champion A.P. Indy out of the dam of Eavesdropper, and who be found through Air de France, Nine Carat and Khozaam,

From limited opportunities there are five stakes winners on a cross of Kingmambo and sons over Star Kingdom line mares. This includes stakes winners from daughters of Best Western, Kenny’s Best Pal and  Canny Lad from the Bletchingly line (also available through Star Watch, Hurricane Sky, Cossack Warrior,  Brave Warrior, Show a Heart, Lord Ballina and Bureaucracy), and from a daughter of Dieu d’Or, who is by Biscay, the sire of Bletchingly. From the Noholme II branch there is a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Green Forest, a son of Shecky Greene, with others from this line including Forest Glow, Green Line Express, Made of Gold and Zabaleta.
