The familiar racing colours of Hussain Lootah were once again carried to a valuable feature race victory when Mossfun made a winning debut in the $250,000 ATC Inglis Nursery (RL) at Randwick.
An $85,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale (Session II) purchase made on behalf of the Emirates Park principal by stud CEO Trevor Lobb, Mossfun turned in a consummate performance at her first appearance in public to land the first prize of $165,000.
Sent off the $3.20 favourite of the 1000-metre Restricted Race despite facing the starter for the first time in her career, the precocious daughter of Mossman bounced straight on to the pace before racing outside the leader for the majority of the contest. The concluding stages then witnessed Mossfun find plenty in a two-horse battle before passing the winning post a long-neck clear of her nearest rival. Over three lengths separated the second and third placegetters.
Speaking on behalf of the training combination of John, Michael and Wayne Hawkes, Michael Hawkes said: "When she [Mossfun] first came in we thought we had a nice filly on our hands. When she trialed she trialed well, and coming to the races today she was very professional and will keep getting better as she gets older. We will probably pull up stumps, freshen her up and head towards the autumn."
Mossfun is one of only two purchases made by Emirates Park CEO Trevor Lobb at this year's Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. The first foal of an unraced daughter of Snitzel, she carries the same racing livery worn by Emirates Park's distinguished racehorses and sires Al Maher and Mutawaajid amongst other notable performers.
