Najmaty scores second black-type victory

Emirates Park home-bred Najmaty posted the second black-type victory of her career when running out  a brilliant winner of the Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes (1200m) on a triple Group 1 program at Eagle Farm in Brisbane.

Back in a firm racing surface after encountering a series of unavoidable rain affected surfaces since her maiden stakes victory at a 2-year-old, Najmaty was seen back to her brilliant best, rocketing down the centre of the Eagle Farm straight under Tommy Berry to defeat 17 rivals in the style of a filly with bigger and better wins in store.

Speaking after his only ride on the Eagle Farm racecard, Berry remarked: “It’s been a long day but I knew I had a good ride in the last to look forward to, so I was rapt.

“She’s got a brilliant finish. Just getting her out of the gates has been a bit of a bad habit in the past, but we were able to get her out today and she raced in a nice spot wide with cover and she moved into at the right time and showed that customary turn of foot we know she’s got.”

Winning co-trainer Paul Snowden stated after the win: “She’s a lovely filly and we’ve been ultra impressed with what she’s done at home, and we were very confident today.

“She’ll play on up here, providing we get back here (Eagle Farm) because she’s not a wet-track filly at all. As you can see that takes away from her finish.

“We were ultra-pleased with how she’s been working from home and more importantly getting the job done for Emirates Park.”

Two races over the Brisbane Winter Carnival identified for Najmaty are the $200,000, Group 2, Dane Ripper Stakes (1300m) on June 11 and the $700,000, Group 1, Tattersalls Tiara (1400m) on June 25.

Significantly, Najmaty’s dam Najoom was one of the pre-post favourites for the 2015 renewal of the Group 1 Tattersalls Tiara but failed to get a start when the third emergency. An exceptional daughter of Northern Meteor, she subsequently suffered a career-ending injury was put to stud that season — Najamty proving to be her second named foal.

Since producing Najmaty, Najoom has successfully foaled a full-sister to Najmaty and a half-sister by Tassort.
