Marboosha posts second black-type success
Emirates Park’s outstanding season of stakes success continued on the Gold Coast when Marboosha scored a brilliant victory in the Group 3 Brandons Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) at her first start on the Sunshine State.
Backed as if unbeatable in the minutes leading up to the 3-year-old set weights event, Marboosha received a calculated ride by veteran Brisbane jockey Jim Byrne close-up on a conservative pace to record the second black-type win of her blossoming victory.
From just nine starts Marboosha has been able to win the Listed VRC Incognitus Stakes (1100m) down the straight at Flemington, and now the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas around the Gold Coast’s tight turning Bundall circuit. The daughter of Dream Ahead (USA) has also been a narrow runner-up in Group company on two further occasions, most recently when a very unlucky second in the P.J. Bell Stakes (G2) at Randwick.
Speaking after Marboosha’s latest win, co-trainer Paul Snowden said in part: “Jimmy [Byrne] summed it up early and we got across nicely. She was probably all out of tickets in the concluding stages but it was a good win. ”
Snowden Jnr added: “She is in the paddock tomorrow. She has got a lot more to give in the spring and this gives us the opportunity to put her away and set her for the spring.”
Marboosha is one 31 stakes winners sired by Dream Ahead as well as being a home-bred maternal grand-daughter of the Emirates Park-raced Boom Time Savings, a Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes and Reisling Slipper Trial runner-up that also ran fourth in the Golden Slipper of her generation.
Marboosha’s own race record now reads four 1sts, three 2nds and one 3rd for $327,225 after her first nine career starts.
