Second $1 million-plus colt sold at MMGC2021
The Emirates Park sales team sold it’s second seven-figure graduate at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale when Lot 869 was purchased by Spendthrift Australia for $1.2 million.
The penultimate Lot to be offered on Day 4 of MMGC2021, the son of Written Tycoon and the placed Medaglia d’Oro (USA) mare Taqaseem took Emirates Park to the top of the vendor statistics based on sale average.
Speaking for the second time in two days after selling a $1 million-plus colt on behalf of Emirates Park, general manager Bryan Carlson told ANZ Bloodstock: “He’s an exceptional-moving colt and we came into the sale thinking he was going to sell well, but to get another million-dollar colt and finish the sale on top of averages was just outstanding.”
Carlson added that the Emirates Park senior management was keen to retain an interest in the colt and had approached Spendthrift regarding the matter in the immediate aftermath.
“You couldn’t ask for a better international farm than Spendthrift,” remarked Carlson. “We have just asked if we can stay in. We look forward to the future with him.”
The colt’s catalogue page features Rewaaya, an exceptional racemare which landed the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes in the colours of Shadwell Australia.
Also prominent in the pedigree is Sense of Occasion, winner of 8 races over 1200m to 2400m including the Group 1 BRC Doomben Cup.
Notably, the Emirates Park-bred colt became the most expensive Written Tycoon colt ever sold at public auction eclipsing the $1,000,000 sum paid for a son sold by Turangga Farm at the 2017 Easter Yearling Sale.
