Estijaab named Australia’s Champion 2-Year-Old
Emirates Park-owned Estijaab has been recognised as Australia’s Champion Two-Year-Old of 2017/18 following an outstanding juvenile campaign that culminated in her all-the-way Golden Slipper victory.
Estijaab officially received the distinction at the Australian Horse of the Year ceremony staged in Melbourne on Thursday night. Emirates Park director Dr Shalabh Sahu attended the function and proudly received the award on behalf of His Excellency Nasser Lootah and his son Hussain.
Speaking on behalf of Estijaab’s connections, Dr Sahu said: “We were over the moon the way she came and won that race [Golden Slipper]; it is still in my memory. It was just a wonderful feeling.
“My boss Hussain was here, and he was thrilled too. It was a very nice result for us.”
Dr Sahu added afterwards: “Any award gives you a great thrill, and this is one of them.”
The Champion Two-Year-Old of 2017/18 award capped off an exceptional season for Esitjaab who has been recognised for the level of her performance on a number of fronts. In addition to receiving the most prized title in domestic juvenile racing, the outstanding daughter of Snitzel was also announced as the ATC NSW Two-year-old of the Year at the 2018 NSW Racehorse Owners Association Night of Champions in August, as well as the HTBA Champion 2YO Filly of season 2017/18 at the Hunter Valley Breeders’ Association’s annual gala night last May.
