December 18, 2017.

Emirates Park-bred, -raced and -owned sire Al Maher continued his impressive run of stakes race successes when Silverstream scored a last-to-first victory in the Group 3 WATC A.J. Scahill Stakes (1400m) at Ascot racecourse in Perth.

Already winner of the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes and Group 3 Northerly Stakes over the same course and distance this preparation, Silverstream was seen at her brilliant best when bursting through a line of horses approaching the closing stages of the coveted sprint and recording her ninth career win.

Now the winner of over $700,000, Silverstream has claimed four black-type events in the colours of Peters Investments P/L all told. The brilliant daughter of Al Maher also won the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic over 1400m at Ascot this time last year.

Winning owner Bob Peters said after the win: “It’s nice to see for a mare, isn’t it. This is probably her last year of racing. Obviously she is getting on a bit now. We’ve looked after her all of her life and she’s done a great job for us.”

The victory of Silverstream in the Scahill continued an outstanding run of stakes successes for the Al Maher breed over the past few months. So such so, that the hugely consistent sire-son of Danehill is in the top-5 stallions of the current racing season based on number of stakes wins.

Since late September, Al Maher progeny has have won eight black-type events through the deeds of Silverstream (3), Classic Uniform (2), Monsieur Gustave (2) and Money Maher. As a result, only the likes of Snitzel ($176,000), Fastnet Rock (POA), I Am Invincible ($110,000) and High Chaparral (deceased) have been responsible for more stakes wins this season.

In comparison to the aforementioned 2017 service fees of Snitzel, Fastnet Rock and I Am Invincible , Al Maher is available for just $13,200.
