Third straight stakes victory for sprinting son of Al Maher

November 23, 2017.

Queensland-based sprinter Monsieur Gustave registered a unique hat-trick of stakes victories when leading from start to finish to land the Listed Keith Noud Quality Handicap (1200m) at Ipswich.

First-up from a four-and-a-half month absence from competition, Monsieur Gustave completely controlled the black-type contest from the outset before running out a clear-cut winner. The 5-year-old son of Al Maher crossed the line three full lengths in advance of his nearest rival, clocking the smart time of 1m09.79s in the process.

At his past three starts, Monsieur Gustave has landed the Ipswich Eye Liner Stakes (1350m), Sunshine Coast Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) and the Keith Noud Quality (1200m), all of which are coveted Listed Race events staged in the Sunshine State. His overall record now reads seven wins, two seconds and one third from 16 starts for $407,900 in earnings.

The Keith Noud (LR) success continues an outstanding run of stakes victories by the stock of Emirates Park-owned sire Al Maher. Since late-September, Classic Uniform, Silverstream, Money Maher, Son of Maher and Monsieur Gustave have won no fewer than seven collective Group/Listed events as far afield as Sydney, Perth, New Zealand and Provincial Queensland.

Notably, their seven victories include the Group 2 ATC Hill Stakes and Group 3 ATC Craven Plate (Classic Uniform), the Group 3 WATC Northerly Stakes and Group 2 WATC Lee Steere Stakes (Sliverstream), and the CJC Coupland Bakeries Mile Handicap (Son of Maher). Further illustrating the versatility of the Al Maher breed is the fact that the series of wins has come at distances which include 1200m, 1400m, 1600m, 1800m and 2000m.

Significantly for breeders, three — Monsieur Gustave, Classic Uniform and Money Maher— of Al Maher’s five very recent stakes winners were October-November foals conceived from late season coverings.
