Perth black-type sprint double for Al Maher

November 13, 2017.

Emirates Park's decorated sire Al Maher continued his outstanding run of recent stakes success when responsible for a black-type double on the latest Ascot program in Perth, Western Australia. Consecutive events on the eight-race card witnessed Money Maher land the Listed WATC Fairetha Stakes over 1400m before Silversteam proved successful over the same course and distance when claiming the feature event of the day, the Group 2 WATC Lee Steere Stakes.

A very progressive 3-year-old son of Al Maher trained by Daniel & Ben Pearce at Karnup, Money Maher stamped himself as a potential star of the 2017 Perth Racing Carnival with an exceptional maiden black-type victory. Ridden towards the back of the 11-horse field until the top of the Ascot straight, Money Maher displayed an electric turn of foot to take charge of the contest with 100m to race before idling to the line two lengths clear of his opposition.

Money Maher has now won three of four starts this season and holds entries for the $500,000 Group 2 W.A. Guineas (1600m) and $1 million Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m). Significantly, the gifted colt became the 34th individual stakes winner for Al Maher when saluting in the Fairetha Stakes at his latest start.

Just over half-an-hour after Money Maher won his assignment on the Ascot program, Al Maher’s high-class daughter Silverstream added to her growing list of feature race successes with victory in the Lee Steere Stakes. One of the most coveted weight-for-age sprints on the Perth racing calendar, Silverstream produced a brilliant finishing burst to score by a long-head to record the biggest win in her distinguished racing career.

A 6-year-old daughter of Al Maher raced in the unmistakable colours of Peters Investments P/L, Silverstream has now won eight races and $552,300 in prizemoney from 24 career starts. Her previous outing had also seen her salute in major Pattern Race company, the mare claiming the WATC Northerly Stakes run over the same course and distance at Group 3 level.

In addition to the black-type wins of Silverstream and Money Maher in Perth during recent weeks, Al Maher has also been represented by dual Sydney Spring Carnival Group winner Classic Uniform, as well as the Malaysian stakes winner Truson.

Saturday’s feature racing interstate in Australia also witnessed the Group 2 VRC Matriarch Stakes (2000m) placing of Token of Love, a 5-year-old daughter of Al Maher that became the stallion’s 56th stakes horse.
