Al Maher’s recent sequence of black-type victories continued in Western Australia over the weekend when his seasoned daughter Silverstream scored a valuable victory in the Group 3 WATC Northerly Stakes (14000m) at Ascot in Peth.
Raced in the distinguished colours of Peters Investments P/L, Silverstream scored her maiden Group success when pouncing on the leaders close to the line to win the 11-runner event by a neck. Victory in the prestigious contest took her record to seven wins and five placings for $400,000 in prizemoney from 23 starts.
Silverstream was already a stakes winner before the Northerly Stakes success, having proven to be one of Perth’s most consistent performers over the past few seasons. A 2-year-old winner in July 2014 on debut, the daughter of Al Maher has been raced exclusively in town, registering her first three wins at Belmont Park and then all subsequent victories at Ascot.
Of course, Silverstream races in the colours of the Bob Peters’ champion 3-year-old filly Delicacy, the daughter of Al Maher that recorded the SAJC Derby-SAJC Oaks WATC Derby-WATC Oaks during her remarkable Classic season. Silverstream and Delicacy were actually bred in the same foal crop that also included Group 1 winning 2-year-old Almalad (Champion 2YO Male), Group winning racemare Felicienne, and the overseas stakes winner Truson.
Silverstream’s Group 3 Northerly Stakes success followed fast on the heels of a feature race double by Classic Uniform during the Sydney Spring racing carnival. The 5-year-old son of Al Maher virtually lead from start-to-finishing in claiming the Group 2 ATC Hill Stakes (1800m) and Group 3 ATC Craven Plate (2000m) in the space of two weeks.
